Rockstar is preparing Project ROME, the official modding platform for GTA 6.
Rumors have surfaced online that Rockstar is working on a new tool called Project ROME, which stands for Rockstar Online Modding Engine. According to insiders, this platform will be built directly into GTA 6 and will allow users to develop original gameplay modes and custom servers.
The leak's credibility is strengthened by the fact that in 2023, Rockstar acquired the Cfx.re team, developers of the popular multiplayer services FiveM and RedM for GTA 5 and RDR 2. At the time, this move was perceived as the studio's desire to officially legitimize and support the modding community in future titles.

Rumor has it that Project ROME will give players tools not only for creating but also for monetizing user-generated content, expanding on the ideas of FiveM and turning GTA into a constantly updated platform similar to Roblox or Fortnite. If confirmed, modding in the series will receive official developer support for the first time and could change the franchise's established format.
There has been no official comment from Rockstar Games yet, and it remains unknown whether Project ROME will appear on consoles or how the new system will coexist with the story campaign and classic GTA Online.
