The Watch Dogs film adaptation is awaiting reshoots, with the premiere date still in question.
Work on the film based on Watch Dogs is far from complete, despite principal photography wrapping in September 2024. Tom Blythe, known for his work on The Hunger Games: Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds and starring in the film adaptation, revealed that the crew recently returned to the set for reshoots on several scenes. He said this only benefited the film and improved the final result.
Blythe noted that the film's plot will not replicate the games' storyline, but will instead be a standalone work designed to be seen as a potential start to a new franchise. He also emphasized that the filmmakers were committed to turning the game into a film, not simply transferring its plot to the screen.

Mathieu Toury, who previously worked on The Maze Runner and The Abyss, is directing. The script is being written by Christy LeBlanc, the creator of Oxygen, and Victoria Bata, known for her work on the series Chemistry Lessons. In addition to Blythe, the lead roles are also announced, including Sophie Wilde (Two, Three, Demon, Come!) and Markella Cavenagh, who starred in The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. A release date has yet to be announced.
The original Watch Dogs series tells the story of hackers confronting corporations and the centralized system ctOS, which connects entire cities into a digital network. Three games have been released so far, the most recent of which, Legion, was released in 2020. Interestingly, the film company had been planning a film adaptation since 2013, before the release of the first game, and in 2019, Ubisoft began developing an animated series based on the franchise, but without direct connection to its events.
