EA has permanently shut down Need for Speed Rivals servers 12 years after the game's release.

Nearly twelve years after its release, EA officially shut down NFS Rivals' online services. The publisher had warned of its imminent closure back in July 2025, so the decision came as no surprise. From now on, the arcade racing game is playable only in single-player mode.

The arcade racing game debuted in 2013 and offered players a choice of two sides—street racers or police. Both factions had their own progression system and unique cars, and the events took place in the open world of the fictitious Radview County.

The most recent project in the series remains Need for Speed Unbound, released in December 2022. Following its release, EA paused development of the franchise, focusing on the development of Battlefield 6, which is being developed by Criterion Games, a former NFS developer.

Furthermore, the company is gradually phasing out support for its other projects. FIFA 23 and Madden 22 will be without multiplayer features by the end of 2025, and in January 2026, EA will finally shut down the servers for BioWare's unsuccessful looter shooter Anthem.
