GTA 4 gets modern lighting thanks to a modder who added ray tracing

An enthusiast named xoxor4d has released the first version of a modification that adds path tracing support to Grand Theft Auto IV. Thanks to the new technology, the 2008 game has been transformed into a modern blockbuster while preserving its original textures. Liberty City now looks much more realistic thanks to dynamic lighting and detailed shadows.

On the ResetEra forum, a tester named gabdeg posted a series of screenshots demonstrating how significantly the game's atmosphere has changed since the implementation of RTX Remix technology. To install the modification, you need the latest version of GTA 4—1.2.0.59, available on both Steam and the Rockstar Games Launcher. The developer recommends using the latter, as it provides better compatibility.

The modification supports Fusion Fix, but xoxor4d is already working on his own patches that should improve the title's stability and performance. For now, the modification is only available to Patreon subscribers with a support level of $10 or higher, with a public release planned for the end of the month.
