Media reports indicate that the Gothic remake will bring the combat system to a "tolerable" state

At a festival in Poznan, Poland, Alkimia Interactive presented an updated demo of the remake of the cult RPG Gothic. Journalists, including CD-Action reviewer Karol Laska, were able to play the prologue to the story of Niras and test the improved combat system.

According to him, the developers have significantly reworked combat, giving weapons noticeable differences. Swords, axes, and two-handed weapons now function differently, and the hero can now perform combos and use a tactical approach. Animations have become smoother and more realistic, but combat requires maintaining a rhythm of attacks—simply clicking on enemies no longer works.

The magic system has also undergone changes: spells now perform different functions depending on the situation. Some allow for precise destruction of enemies with minimal mana expenditure, while others require lengthy preparation but are devastatingly powerful. The developers noted that combat remains their primary focus.

However, journalists noted that the parry system still leaves much to be desired. There are situations where a character blocks an attack but still takes damage. Despite significant progress, the combat mechanics are still far from ideal and feel awkward in places.

Karol Laska emphasized that the studio is truly listening to criticism and trying to address it, but the current goal is not to create a perfect combat system, but to at least make it acceptable for most players.

The Gothic remake is planned for release by April 2026, possibly coinciding with the original game's 25th anniversary. The developers also confirmed that the project will not be released on the Nintendo Switch 2, as the console cannot handle its technical requirements.
