Battlefield 6 has surpassed Black Ops 7 in pre-orders and popularity – analysts have identified the reasons for its success

The fall of 2025 unexpectedly returned the video game industry to the classic Call of Duty vs. Battlefield rivalry. However, this time the situation was different: while Activision's series had previously consistently dominated the market, Electronic Arts' shooter had now confidently pulled ahead.

Alinea Analytics presented GamesIndustry.biz with fresh data on pre-orders and sales for the season's two biggest games. According to the reports, Battlefield 6 managed to overtake Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 even before its release. On Steam, 18 days before its release, the new Call of Duty game had approximately 200,000 pre-orders, while Battlefield 6 had nearly reached the million mark. Furthermore, Black Ops 7 only ranked 173rd in the ranking of the most anticipated projects, while Battlefield 6 remained firmly in the top three.

Analysts estimate that EA's shooter has already surpassed 10 million copies in total sales, though the company has only officially confirmed seven. Despite this, Alinea experts are confident that Black Ops 7 can still close the gap and even surpass its competitor. Call of Duty's main advantage remains its huge and loyal fan base, spanning both consoles and PCs. Millions of players purchase new installments annually out of habit or brand loyalty, and close integration with Warzone ensures constant audience engagement through in-game marketing and social media activity.

Experts believe Battlefield still has a chance to become a competitive contender with Call of Duty, but to achieve this, EA needs to establish a stable system of supporting the project with new updates and content. The first steps in this direction have already been taken: the first season of Battlefield 6 recently launched, along with the release of a new free mode, Battlefield REDSEC.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is scheduled for release on November 14, 2025. The game will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
