Rumor: Apple may discontinue the iPhone Air line after dismal sales of the first model

Judging by recent reports from industry sources, Apple appears to have become disillusioned with its experiment with the "slimmed-down" iPhone Air. According to The Information, the company is preparing to halt production of the first model and delay the release of its successor indefinitely.

Rumor: Apple may discontinue the iPhone Air line after dismal sales of the first model

Sources claim that the situation at Apple's partner factories is alarming. At Foxconn, only one assembly line is operating at full capacity, another is operating at half capacity, and the Luxshare factory completely stopped producing the Air smartphone back in October. Initially, no more than 10% of the company's total production capacity was allocated to the iPhone Air, but even these cautious plans have not materialized. The final assembly halt is expected to occur at the end of November.

Sales of the device have fallen significantly short of expectations. According to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, the iPhone Air accounts for approximately 3% of all Apple smartphones sold, while flagship versions have demonstrated much more impressive results. The iPhone 17 Pro accounts for approximately 9% of total sales, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max accounts for approximately 12%.

As a result, according to insiders, Apple has decided to delay the release of the iPhone Air 2, which was originally planned for 2026. However, work on the device is rumored to be ongoing. The company allegedly intends to rethink the lineup and address the shortcomings of the original version, possibly returning to the idea of a "lightweight" iPhone after 2027.
