Hogwarts Legacy outsold Cyberpunk 2077 in a shorter period

Avalanche Software announced another commercial milestone for Hogwarts Legacy: the action RPG has surpassed 40 million copies sold. It took the title just over two years to reach this milestone since its February 10, 2023, release. The game is available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, as well as previous-generation consoles and the Nintendo Switch, including the Switch 2, though sales breakdown by platform is not disclosed.

This means the fantasy adventure has surpassed Cyberpunk 2077, whose sales are currently estimated at approximately 35 million copies. CD Projekt's game was released significantly earlier, in 2020, highlighting the faster growth of the Harry Potter franchise.

Hogwarts Legacy is an action RPG set in a magical world. The story centers on a student accepted into Hogwarts in his fifth year, who must master spells, explore the surrounding area, solve mysteries, and confront an impending threat.

The developers have already confirmed that a sequel is in production. Hogwarts Legacy 2 was officially announced in the fall of 2024.
