Rumor: GTA 6's online component could become an MMORPG

A new round of rumors about the future of Grand Theft Auto VI has surfaced online, this time concerning its online component. According to industry veteran Rich Vogel, known for his work on Ultima Online and Star Wars: The Old Republic, Rockstar is reportedly planning to introduce elements typical of full-fledged MMORPGs into the online mode.

Vogel claims to have heard about a number of mechanics and systems that go far beyond the usual GTA Online and are more reminiscent of the structure of massively multiplayer role-playing games. However, this does not refer to the story campaign, but exclusively to the online mode, which could become much more extensive and systemic.

The source of this information is not directly involved in the project's development, and the information is secondhand, so it should be considered purely unconfirmed insider information. Nevertheless, the rumors appear plausible given Rockstar's deal with Cfx.re in 2023. The company is behind FiveM, a popular platform with dedicated servers, expanded online play, and deep role-playing interactions that has long attracted a huge audience and streamers, sometimes surpassing the activity of the official GTA Online.
