A Cyberpunk 2077 developer has debunked a common myth about elevators in the game

There's long been a rumor surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 that the elevators in Night City serve as hidden loading screens. However, CD Projekt RED has officially stated that this is untrue and has nothing to do with the project's technical design.

Igor Sarzhinsky, responsible for the cinematic portion of Cyberpunk 2077 and the sequel's creative director, decided to clarify the situation. He noted that this technique is indeed often used in other games, but in the case of Night City, it was simply unnecessary. The world's architecture was designed from the outset to allow players to freely navigate the city and enter large locations without any loading pauses.

According to him, the elevators were not included in the game due to technical limitations, but rather because of the world's logic. They could even have been made completely transparent without fear of performance issues. Ultimately, the elevators serve a purely atmospheric and functional purpose, and do not serve as cover for hidden loading screens.
