Valve may ditch cases in Counter-Strike 2 and replace them with a new system
The Counter-Strike 2 community is discussing possible changes to the skin acquisition system. After a recent update, players noticed that some rare cases had disappeared from the drop pool, sparking rumors of Valve's plans to ditch traditional loot boxes.
Data miner Thour claims that the company isn't planning to completely remove existing cases. According to him, the company will simply stop adding new ones, replacing them with alternatives. The shooter already features so-called terminals, which drop similarly to cases but operate differently.

Through the terminal, the user interacts with a virtual merchant who offers a specific, random skin. The player sees the item in advance and can decide whether to purchase it or try to refresh the offer, although the number of attempts is limited. This format is expected to allow Valve to circumvent legal barriers related to gambling mechanics, as the purchase is no longer based on a completely random outcome.
