Return to Pandora. The success of the new Avatar has spurred interest in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
The release of Avatar: Fire and Ash unexpectedly impacted not only the film industry but also the gaming industry. The sci-fi action film had such a strong start that it has already surpassed most of the major 2025 blockbusters in box office receipts, while also reminding audiences of the nearly forgotten action game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora from Ubisoft.
After the film's premiere, players began actively returning to the 2023 project. According to SteamDB statistics, 12,496 users were online concurrently on December 28th. For a single-player, open-world story-driven action game with no multiplayer focus, this is a noticeable spike in activity. Structurally, Frontiers of Pandora resembles Far Cry 3, offering a standalone adventure on Pandora rather than online modes.
The new film wasn't the only reason interest in the game was fueled. On December 5th, the developers released the story expansion "From The Ashes," which connected the main campaign of Frontiers of Pandora with the events of the third film in the trilogy. In addition to new missions, the expansion introduced a key change: the ability to play in a third-person perspective, which significantly refreshed the familiar world.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is far from Ubisoft's first attempt to bring James Cameron's universe to an interactive format. Back in 2009, the company released Avatar: The Game, an official prequel to the first film in the series. Judging by the current surge in interest, Pandora remains a place players are eager to return to at any opportunity.
