Counter-Strike 2 brought Valve over a billion dollars in a year
2025 was an extremely profitable year for Valve thanks to Counter-Strike 2. According to blogger ZestyJesus, who analyzed Steam statistics, the company earned over $1 billion from in-game purchases alone.
According to estimates, between November 2024 and November 2025, users opened over 400 million cosmetic item crates. Each crate requires a separate key, costing approximately $2.50. Thus, key sales alone generated over $1 billion in revenue for Valve, excluding other game-related revenue sources.

The Steam platform also generated additional profits for the company. During the same time period, users sold approximately 754 million items from Counter-Strike 2, worth approximately $1.22 billion. Since Valve takes a 15 percent commission on each transaction, its revenue from market operations amounted to an additional $166 million.
