GOG will keep Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for modern PCs
The GOG digital store team has announced plans to bring the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time back into the mainstream gaming landscape. The classic action game will be added to the GOG Preservation Program, which aims to preserve iconic titles and adapt them for modern computers.
GOG emphasizes that The Sands of Time occupies a special place in the history of the industry, so the game must remain accessible regardless of market changes and decisions by major publishers. This isn't just about making it playable on new versions of Windows, but about creating the highest-quality version possible, one that can be considered a benchmark for today's PCs. According to the store's representatives, work to improve and adapt the game is already underway, but no exact release date has yet been announced.

Interestingly, GOG's initiative comes amid Ubisoft's recent decisions. The French company previously canceled the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, citing its failure to meet updated quality standards. Along with it, a mobile game and several other unannounced developments, including three original intellectual properties, were shut down. Against this backdrop, GOG's attempt to preserve the original seems especially symbolic.
