An insider declared Watch Dogs dead, but the internet disagrees
A new controversy has erupted over the future of the Watch Dogs series following a statement from insider Tom Henderson, who claimed the franchise is effectively dead. According to him, Ubisoft has become disillusioned with the brand due to the poor financial results of Watch Dogs: Legion, which failed to meet the publisher's expectations and prevented the series from developing further.
Despite Henderson's reputation as a reliable source, his conclusions have raised doubts. Director Mathieu Thuri recalled that a film adaptation of Watch Dogs is already in development, while another well-known insider, Shinobi602, noted that the reports of the franchise's "death" are not entirely accurate and refer to more than just the upcoming film. This has given rise to the belief that the brand may still have a future.

Rumors of Watch Dogs' demise have intensified amid a major reorganization at Ubisoft. The company has canceled six projects, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, delayed seven releases, and closed two studios. At the time, insiders named games that had survived the changes, but Watch Dogs wasn't among them. The consequences of the decisions were painful: Ubisoft shares plummeted more than 30%, and over the past five years, the company's value has declined by almost 95%, only heightening concerns about the franchise's fate.
