Blizzard announced Overwatch Rush, a top-down mobile spin-off

Blizzard Entertainment officially unveiled Overwatch Rush, a new game set in the popular shooter universe, developed specifically for mobile platforms. Rather than a simple port, the developers decided to adapt the gameplay to the specifics of smartphones, transforming the dynamic first-person shooter into a top-down multiplayer action game.

Judging by the released trailer, the project is in a fairly advanced stage of development, despite its early production status. The video showcases familiar character models, a recognizable interface, and even some gameplay mechanics carried over from the original Overwatch. However, the gameplay itself has undergone significant changes: matches will be shorter, with a greater emphasis on hero customization.

A key feature of Rush will be a character development system based on the frequent use of certain abilities. The more actively a player utilizes a particular mechanic in battle, the faster it improves, unlocking new possibilities and tactical options. This approach is designed to retain the audience and add the depth of progression typical of mobile games.

Rumors of a mobile version of Overwatch have been circulating for some time, and now they've been officially confirmed. Production is being handled by a separate team, separate from Team 4, which was busy with the extensive rebranding and development of Overwatch 2. A precise release date hasn't yet been announced, but Blizzard plans to launch testing in select regions soon. The game will be released on iOS and Android.
