Rumors of a Windows 12 release in 2026 turned out to be premature
The media reports this week about the imminent release of the Windows 12 operating system are false. The PCWorld portal published a story citing its own sources claiming that Microsoft's new OS could be released as early as this year. The news quickly spread throughout the gaming and technology communities, sparking heated discussions among users.
However, after some time, the publication was forced to retract its statement. In an updated version of the article, the editors explained that the original article was a translation of a publication from the German website PC-Welt and, as the authors themselves acknowledged, did not meet editorial standards for quality and accuracy. Therefore, the sensational news about the imminent release of a successor to Windows 11 was unfounded.

The more reputable resource Windows Central, which specializes in covering Microsoft products, quickly contacted sources familiar with the corporation's official roadmap. According to the data obtained, the company's plans for 2026 do not include any mention of the release of Windows 12. Currently, all developer efforts are focused on improving the current version of the operating system, Windows 11, as well as fixing accumulated issues and bugs.
