The upcoming DLC for DOOM: The Dark Ages promises to be a full-fledged sequel with new gameplay
DOOM series director Hugo Martin shared intriguing details about the upcoming story expansion for last year's DOOM: The Dark Ages during a Slayers Club Live stream. According to the game designer, the scale of the content is so vast that it feels more like a full-fledged new game than a regular expansion, and the gameplay of the DLC will be radically different from the original 2025 game.
Martin revealed that the expansion's levels will be much more intense and dense in structure than the large, open environments of The Dark Ages, which should please fans who miss the classic design. Players can expect at least two new mechanics, one of which, if mastered, could reveal a completely new side of the action. Furthermore, the DOOM Slayer's arsenal will be expanded with a spear imbued with unique characteristics and special abilities.
Martin admitted that he's already actively testing the DLC, but the official announcement is still a long way off—we'll have to wait some time for a trailer. DOOM: The Dark Ages was released on May 13, 2025, and despite positive reviews from critics, it garnered a mixed reaction from fans. Many considered the game a step back from the fast-paced DOOM: Eternal, and the emphasis on melee combat and the obligatory use of shields wasn't to everyone's liking.
