Rumors about cryptocurrency in GTA VI have been definitively debunked

Well-known insider Tom Henderson has put an end to years of speculation about the possible introduction of cryptocurrency into Grand Theft Auto VI. According to him, Rockstar Games abandoned the idea early on in development, deeming the concept redundant and potentially detrimental to the gaming experience.

Rumors about cryptocurrency in GTA VI have been definitively debunked

Rumors about the introduction of virtual tokens in the game have been circulating since 2021. It was believed that the developers were considering creating a complex economic system for multiplayer, where a portion of in-game rewards would be awarded in digital currency simulating the real crypto market. However, despite the seemingly modern nature of this idea, it was abandoned during development, believing that multi-currency schemes would only confuse players and reduce engagement.

Instead of experimenting with blockchain, the developers will return to the tried-and-true model of using traditional US dollars. This will free players from the need to navigate complex wallets and currency conversions, allowing them to focus on the gameplay itself. However, few doubt that Rockstar won't miss the opportunity to mock crypto enthusiasts in its signature satirical style, incorporating blockchain themes into jokes and Easter eggs.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release in the fall of 2026.
