The first image of the God of War series has been released: Kratos and Atreus are behind the camera

Amazon Prime Video has released the debut image for its upcoming series based on the cult video game series God of War. The photo, taken during filming, features the main characters: Ryan Hurst, known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy, as the stern Spartan Kratos, and alongside him is a young Callum Vinson from the series Night Agent, who plays his son Atreus.

Along with the release of the first image, the project's creators announced the start of filming. Apparently, the adaptation will cover the events of not only the 2018 reboot but also its sequel, God of War Ragnarok, telling the story of a father and son's journey through the harsh lands of Norse mythology. Viewers will be treated to ten episodes exploring their complex relationship against the backdrop of epic landscapes.

Ronald D. Moore, known for such works as Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, and For All Mankind, is the project's showrunner and head writer. He calls his creation an adaptation and interpretation of the original, promising to preserve the key characters and the overall atmosphere of the game, while maintaining the narrative tone as close as possible to what has endeared the series to millions of fans worldwide. Plot details are currently being kept under wraps.
